What is a fractional number?
A fractional number is a number that can be expressed as the ratio of two integers. For example, 0.5 can be expressed as 1/2, and 0.75 can be expressed as 3/4. They can be represented in decimal or ratio form and can also be written as a fraction or decimal. They are not limited to just integers.
How is addition performed in fractional numbers?
To add fractional numbers, first, the denominators must be made common. To make the denominators common, the numerators or denominators must be raised to the least common multiple (LCM). To find the LCM, the least common multiple of the denominators must be found. For example, to perform the calculation (2/5) + (3/5), the denominators are raised to 5 and 2/5 + 3/5 = 5/5 = 1 is calculated .
How is subtraction performed in fractional numbers?
Subtraction in fractional numbers is performed similarly to addition in the same fraction, ensuring that the denominator and numerator are the same. If the denominators are not the same, the subtraction is performed using the ratios used to make the denominators the same. For example; 1/2 - 1/4 = (2 * 1/4) / (2 * 1/2) = 4/8 - 2/8 = 2/8.
How is multiplication performed in fractional numbers?
Multiplication of fractional numbers is performed by multiplying the numerators and the product of the denominators. For example:(3/4) * (1/2) = (3 * 1) / (4 * 2) = 3/8.
How is division performed in fractional numbers?
Division in fractional numbers is performed as the reverse of multiplication. It is done by multiplying the dividend's numerator with the reciprocal of the divisor's denominator. For example:(3/4) / (1/2) = (3/4) * (2/1) = (3 * 2) / (4 * 1) = 6/4 = 3/2.
